PaperNim
Nim, a Game with a Complete Mathematical Theory
Charles L. Bouton, Annals of Mathematics, Second Series, Vol. 3, No. 1/4, 1901–1902, pp. 35–39
Description
The foundational paper in combinatorial game theory. Bouton proves that Nim's winning strategy is entirely determined by the bitwise XOR ("nim-sum") of the heap sizes — transforming the game from a gambling pastime into a mathematical landmark.
